It’s the same old conversations
And the same old stupid lines
Of all my many grave mistakes
You’re the one that just won’t die

And I wish that I could bury you
Or at least wish I could hide
Because underneath all of my smiling
You know there’s heartache deep inside

You can burn me down like chapters
‘Cause you can read me like a book
And it ain’t hard to find the reason why
All you have to do is look

You hooked me with your claws out
You went in, straight for the kill
You should be grateful that I love you darlin’
Because I’m the only one who will

AN ODE TO MIDDAY SOMBER

Feeling ill in lovely shade
Cuts from grass off every blade
For in the light, beneath the sky
The wasps and bees still slowly fly
Searching for bared flesh from spring,
A touch of death in every sting

In the park there sits a boy who grieves
For he no longer romps in fallen leaves
The trees are full, no longer plain
The flowers feast on falling rain
Brought on and fourth from passing day
And never a moment without dismay --

And never a moment without dismay.
